The American Nightmare has suffered a torn pectoral tendon, but Seth is battling the pain to face freakin’ Rollins—who wore his late father Dusty Rhodes’s iconic polka dots—on Sunday night.
Cody was covered as he entered, but the Allstate Arena in Chicago was filled with gasping from the crowd as he revealed his purple chest and shoulders.
A silence fell at the venue as he took his take-off, with many apparently surprised that Rhodes had been cleared to compete for this match as well.
In a statement less than an hour after the show began, WWE tweeted: ‘BREAKING: @CodyRhodes suffered a partially torn right pectoral tendon during an altercation with @WWERollins last Monday on #WWERaw had to face it.’
Speaking at the Hell in a Cell 2022 kickoff show, host Kayla Braxton said: ‘During weight training in preparation, the tendon completely detached from the bone.’
Despite the injury, with Rhodes still out for the main event, fans should certainly be concerned about his short-lived future in the ring after the bout in which Rollins completely dominated.
Cody responded to reports earlier in the day as he shared a photo from the Allstate Arena in Chicago and wrote: ‘You ready for Chicago? #HIAC @WWE’
Elsewhere on the show, Bianca Belair retained her Raw Women’s Championship in the Instant Classic against Becky Lynch and Asuka, while Theory captured the United States Title despite the best efforts of Mustafa Ali.
Madcap Moss found a way to avenge Happy Corbin in a brutal No Holds Bard match, and The Judgment Day (Edge, Damien Priest and Rhea Ripley) defeated AJ Styles, Finn Balor, and Liv Morgan.
Bobby Lashley defeated MVP and Omos with some help from Cedric Alexander, and Kevin Owens pinned Ezekiel.
