With events taking place a year after the events of season two, there is much to unpack for members of The Seven – corrupt superheroes both working for the mighty corporation Watt International and abusing their powers. — and The Boys, a company set up to bring a group of vigilantes and their corrupt, fake heroes down.
With another all-new eight episodes in store (though only the first three drop on June 3), the cast has seen swelling among their ranks.
With established characters including Homelander (Anthony Starr), Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), The Deep (Chase Crawford) and Queen Maeve (Dominic McElligott), we’ve got new blood from the likes of actors Jensen Ackles. and Laurie Holden.
Who are the new additions to The Boys for season three though, and what characters do they play?
Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy
Supernatural star Jensen stars as Soldier Boy, the first superhero and Captain America parody-style figure.
In the original graphic novels by Garth Ennis and Derrick Robertson, Soldier Boy has an enigmatic backstory.
After being injected with Compound V formula in 1944, he fought and killed German soldiers at the height of conflict across Europe.
In season three, The Boys’ pursuit of a mysterious Anti-Super weapon prompts them to pursue Soldier Boy.
Laurie Holden as Crimson Countess
Whose hoax is Laurie Holden’s Crimson Countess? miracleMade especially popular by Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff, Disney Plus‘s wandavisionStarring Elizabeth Olsen, with Paul Bettany in the role of Vision, and most recently the return of Wanda in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The other half of the Crimson Countess is also similar – mind-droid.
She is a member of Payback.
Miles Gaston Villanueva as Supersonic
Supersonic, as played by Miles Gaston Villanueva, is Starlight’s (Erin Moriarty) ex-boyfriend.
He is also a member of Payback, although not much is known about him.
In promotional materials for the show, he was given a glimpse through the Tucker Carson parody Seven on 7 by Cameron Coleman, suggesting that he would be making a major comeback.
He is based on the original comics character of Drummer Boy.
Nick Weschler as Blue Hawk
Blue Hawk, another member of the Payback superhero team, is portrayed by Nick Wechler.
Not much is known about him as a freshly created character for the universe, but it looks like he may be based on the Wolverine parody Ground Hawk (who wears the Blue Hawk helmet) in the comics.
Sean Patrick Flannery as Gunpowder
Gunpowder, as played by Sean Patrick Flannery—surprise, surprise—is a member of yet another Payback team.
A character in the comics, he is a firearms enthusiast and is capable of manipulating projectiles and attaching weapons out of thin air.
He was also Soldier Boy’s sidekick.
Katia Winter as Little Nina
A non-superhero new addition, Little Nina (Katia Winters) is actually a notorious Russian gangster.
In the comics, his nickname comes from his short stature and fondness for vibrators.
He has also worked with Watt and created his own super using a derived version of compound V, which fails. In the show, however, her story is said to have been drastically altered.
Boyz Seasons 1 and 2 are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video. Season 3 streams Friday, June 3 on Prime.
