Warning: spoilers ahead Stranger Things Season 4 Vol 1.
Stranger Things creators have shared that Will Byers’ sexuality-related story will be explored further in the Netflix series, as viewers voice their hopes for answers.
Since the show’s inception, Will’s (Noah Schnapp) sexual orientation has been the subject of discussion, with many viewers concluding that he may be gay.
In a Season 3 scene when Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Will are arguing, Mike talks about saying: ‘It’s not my fault that you don’t like girls,’ while in Season 4’s Volume 1 A heartwarming story has got many fans excited. The theory that Will may have developed a crush on his friend, however, has not been confirmed.
Noah recently said that the writers of the science-fiction show had left Will’s sexuality ‘up to the audience’s interpretation’, adding: ‘If it’s Will’s refusing to grow up and compare to his friends. Slow growing, or if he is really gay.’
However, series creators Matt and Ross Duffer promised there is “much more resolution” to come.
while talking to DiversityThe Duffer brothers said: ‘The full arc of the story hasn’t come to a close yet because we’re actually in episode seven, this is what we call the end of our second act.
‘So there’s more to the story; We’re trying to do the same with the characters’ arc. And I would say it applies to Will’s arc.’
The duo said that “it will be a lot easier for everyone to talk” — for themselves and the cast members — when volume two of season four drops in July.
“But of course, his journey and arc is far from over,” he said.
Meanwhile, Noah has appeared to offer his support for Will and Mike being together in a future series, despite Mike being currently in a relationship with Eleven.
‘S4 shipping me a boiler on anything… Vol. 2 now!!’ He tweeted, referring to the ship’s name ‘Boiler’ given to Will Byers and Mike Wheeler.
As expected, fans loved his tweet, with the post garnering over 174,000 likes.
The official account of Netflix Geekade replied: ‘He deserves the same love he gives.’
We couldn’t agree more.
Stranger Things is available to watch on Netflix. Season 4 Volume 2 drops Friday, July 1.
