Ray Parlor has told Real Madrid will enter a transfer battle with Chelsea to sign Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling this summer.

The 27-year-old Englishman has been a regular starter for Pep Guardiola, scoring 17 goals in 47 appearances last season.

However, he has only one year left on his contract and has been linked with a move to Etihad, with reports Chelsea were interested in signing him.

Parlor, a former Arsenal midfielder, believes Sterling would be a ‘great’ addition to Real Madrid, who are upbeat after winning La Liga and previous Champions League stints.

talking to talkSPORTHe said: ‘I’m thinking of getting some players to try a different league, a different culture – I’m not going to get ahead of Rahim thinking about it.

‘He has a year left on his contract and, it’s amazing, I thought Rahim must be 30-odd now – but he’s only 27!

‘He is at the top of his life and career and he doesn’t play regularly because Man City have a lot of good players.

‘So yeah, what’s the trick. Antonio Rudiger is also going there, Real Madrid are really pushing it now and Raheem Sterling will be a great signing for him.’

Bringing in Sterling has the potential to stunt Brazil’s youth development, with Vinicius Junior doing well on the left wing for Real Madrid.

However, manager Carlo Ancelotti found it difficult to resist the City man due to Sterling’s emergence as one of Europe’s top wingers.

Since signing for City in 2014, he has made 339 appearances for the Manchester Giants and scored 131 goals.

Meanwhile, they have won four Premier League titles and five domestic cups at the Etihad.

Earlier this year, Guardiola noted how important Sterling was to his team, having worked with the forward for six years.

He added: ‘No one doubts how important this is. What I want is to play well (day after day). Not just him, but all the players. If we count the amount of games he has played since living together, that is a lot. He is a key player.
