Pensioner’s skull was torn off during attack by ‘pit bull-type’ dog

A pensioner has recalled the fear that he was ‘over’ when a ‘pit bull-type’ dog started hitting his head and face.

Jacqueline McGrew, 75, walked next door to pick up some cat litter her neighbor had bought for her when her son was attacked by a dog last week.

He said: ‘I thought I was finished. I thought I would have. It was a bloodbath. I was covered in blood. It was a real mess.

‘I could feel the dog biting my head, biting my skull. Then it became my nose. I was screaming in pain. I must have tried to take the dog away from me as it had bitten my hand too.’

Jacqueline, from Blackburn, Lancashire, had deep wounds to her skull, as well as a broken jaw and dislocated nose.

Police suspect it was a ‘pit bull-type dog’.

Jacqueline told Mirror When she went into the garden she didn’t know it was outside, if she had known she would never have done it.

Fortunately, the neighbor dived over the dog and pinned it to the floor before further damage was done and a paramedic living nearby rushed him to the hospital.

According to the paper’s report, the dog who saved him was named Kia, which was confiscated by the police.

Jacqueline said: ‘I’m an animal lover, but with this dog I have to say, put it down. I can’t even imagine this dog roaming around.’

She said doctors had told her it could take up to a year for her injuries to heal.

Police said that their investigation is on.

The pit bull is the breed most commonly associated with dog attacks in the UK.

They are one of four breeds created when the Dangerous Dogs Act came into force after the attacks in 1991.
