Louis van Gaal says that while Jurian Timber is good enough to play Manchester United, he will advise the Dutchman against leaving Ajax this summer.

The centre-back Timber has been linked with a move to the Red Devils, with Erik ten Haag looking to reunite with the promising 20-year-old at Old Trafford.

But former United boss and current Netherlands manager van Gaal does not think Timber should step into the upcoming transfer window as a place in the Dutch team for the World Cup is at stake.

‘I think a player with him’ [Timber’s] Virtues can play in the Premier League,’ Van Gaal said in his press conference ahead of the Netherlands Nations League clash with Wales on Wednesday.

‘that’s not a problem. But if he has to take that step now… that’s another question.

‘I guess it’s not that intelligent’ [to move to United], He has to play.

While a nail-on starter at Ajax, it is unclear how the first team at United will join Timber, as he is talented, Ten Haig could favor the experience of the likes of Rafael Varane and Harry Maguire in the early stages. of next season.

Meanwhile the defender’s place in the Dutch team is far from guaranteed, with Oranje having quality centre-backs including Virgil van Dijk, Matthijs de Ligt, Nathan Acke and Stefan de Verge.

Van Gaal also commented on Ten Haig’s appointment as Red Devils boss and appears to have changed his tune a bit, having previously warned his fellow countrymen to stay away from Old Trafford.

He had previously labeled United a ‘commercial club’, but changes in the hierarchy at the club have suggested that things will be better for Ten Haag than Van Gaal during his two-season stint at Manchester.

‘I’ve talked to him’ [Ten Hag] But now there is a new leadership.”

,[Before] it was [Ed] Woodward, now it’s Richard Arnold. This can make a difference. Eric has a lot of confidence. Who am I to say anything about it?’
