Thursday’s letter page seems to be mirroring Sonic Frontiers’ Shadow of the Colossus, as one reader expected Super Mario Cricket.

So now there’s even more reason to expect that there will be a Nintendo Direct next week? I guess the only reason it doesn’t happen is why keep it a secret? Really, what is it with game companies and pointless secrets lately? They never keep the good ones about new games, so why be so secretive about when your event will be revealed? These things used to be announced weeks before E3 was still a thing.
Anyway, I’m really hoping Nintendo makes an effort and talks about the new Zelda, Metroid Prime 4, and Bayonetta 3. Add to that their other games that we already know about and it’s a really cool line-up that could easily be better than Microsoft and Sony.
Splatoon 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, and Advance Wars (hopefully) not only have the best set of first party games in the second half of the year, it’s the only one we know for sure. It’s time for Nintendo to puff up its chest and show off. The fact that it’s the obvious thing to do, though, leads me to believe they won’t.
Hey… so did anyone see the new episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi this week? Not going into spoilers, but this was basically the end of Fallen Order, but more boring and very stupid. The parallels with the game were already there in the previous episode, as others have pointed out, but it’s kind of an off-brand fan-made entertainment and that’s embarrassing.
I used to enjoy The Mandalorian but now it seems that games are better than shows and movies (not that there are no movies anymore). I’m definitely in for good sport, but whoever is in charge of organizing all these things should fall asleep at the wheel.
It’s a real shame that they didn’t reveal a big part of these upcoming Star Wars games at a celebratory event last month because we really don’t know what we’re watching at the moment. And yet I’m afraid I have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Obi-Wan’s last two episodes.
long time coming
The No Fable in Microsoft program is a real disappointment to me and I really hope it’s not true. It also made me think that the developer was definitely exaggerating the truth when they say there are no problems with the game.
They’ve been making it for five years or more and they still don’t have anything they can show? As another reader said, Nintendo isn’t too secretive and it’s pretty obvious that Microsoft isn’t hiding the game, so others don’t copy it. They’re hiding it before it’s nowhere and/or not good enough.
I hope he has a good show because it’s about time we had some good news but I feel really bad about his ‘E3’ schedule. I hope they have some new announcements which no one has indicated yet.

Reading about the 1-2-Switch sequels it’s been putting on ice, I wonder how many games Nintendo has canceled over the years. As I understand it games get canceled a lot at any publisher, so imagine how many Nintendo would have got axed in their time.
I guess this explains why his rumors are never true even if the sources are good. I hope they were true when they were first reported but they were later quashed. I mean, they canceled the Zelda Netflix show just because it was leaked, maybe they do the same with the game? Maybe there are five half-baked F-Zero games somewhere at Nintendo HQ that never made it?
From what I can make out of Sonic Frontiers, I think the main inspiration is Shadow of the Colossus Not Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Maybe Zelda alone in terms of visuals, but the giant boss they showed is Shadow of the Colossus and there’s nothing like a Zelda game. Also, Shadow of the Colossus is really gloomy, with a vast open world that contains nothing.
Now, I don’t know why Sega is copying it, as it doesn’t make much sense from Zelda, but I’d say it’s definitely the crux of the idea. I hope later videos show even bigger and more complex bosses you’ll have to climb up. Maybe there will be a horse too, he will just be one of his new friends.

I just beat Elden Ring and, I hate to be casual, but it’s an incredible game. Easily one of my favorites and definitely in my top five of the last two generations. However, looking back on it after my win (I took too long a shower to consider it) I have to admit that while it wasn’t technically anything new, it did introduce familiar ideas and mechanics to the most enjoyable. I put together so far.
So my question isn’t so much what From will become next, but whether it will always be something like Dark Souls but with a twist. If that’s the case then I’m fine, but I’d like to see them branch out a bit. I know there are rumors of a new armored corps, but unless it’s radically different from the others, I can’t see it being very interesting.
They made the VR game Déraciné, which I haven’t played but sounds interesting, so I want to tackle them as something completely, or at least mostly, separate. For example, who doesn’t want to be seen out of style role-playing games? Or how about other dumb action games like QTE Fest Ninja Blade? They’ve grown a lot as a company over the past decade or so I’d love to see what they do with the new and old days with all their new experience.
game of the year
So if Nintendo has a new sports game every year, and this year has Mario Strikers, what about next year? I can’t believe they already go round Mario Tennis so what do they do? Don’t have one or don’t have a sport that’s less than a good fit? I think they had a baseball before, but I’m not sure if it was even released in Europe.
We’ll never get Super Mario Cricket, even if we absolutely should, what else could they have done? Ice hockey looks like it would be similar to Strikers and I don’t see American football being popular. Or maybe dodgeball? I say dodgeball, I still don’t really understand if it’s a real game of something made for that movie.
Personally, I’m really excited to learn that Street Fighter 6 will have a proper single-player mode. From what we’ve seen so far, it looks like Capcom has learned every lesson from Street Fighter 5, especially in terms of the poor launch and lack of content.
Their biggest problem is that now everything is not surprising or nostalgic. Street Fighter 4 was a huge comeback and no one was able to replicate it, and without fault.
With Street Fighter 6, though I like everything I’ve seen so far, the graphics, characters (including leaks), and tone aren’t getting too serious, which is something I was worried about. .
Street Fighter may never be a big new thing again, but I think as long as it’s a quality game with a steady stream of updates, it could be a hit again. This is the definitive fighting game series for me and I will always be ready for it.
So what if Diablo Immortal is Blizzard’s worst game if it’s massively profitable? Which would probably happen. Will Blizzard take less that they should make a worse game?
So when Ewan McGregor was referring to games on the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ show, he wasn’t alluding to a crossover with Fallen Order, he was pointing out that they were only going to rip the ending bulk. And hope no one noticed?
This week’s hot topic
Xbox and Bethesda Showcases are due late on Sunday, with Inbox asking you what you’re expecting to see announced later this week, both this June and at other E3-esque shows.
E3 may never return, but Microsoft, at least, is maintaining that same schedule with its big 90-minute preview event. So what games and other revelations are you looking forward to? What surprises do you predict, including new hardware and service announcements, and games to be released this year?
Sony, Nintendo, and third-party publishers haven’t confirmed whether they’ll be doing something similar this month, but if they do, what do you expect from it? And why do you think that’s probably not going to happen?
