The Friday Letters page still thinks Fallen Order is better than Obi-Wan Kenobi, as one reader hopes Obsidian makes in Fallout: New Vegas 2.

Beginning of the End
That may change, but it looks like Xbox Series X stock is readily available now and has been for weeks. Smyths aren’t available for home delivery, but most of their stores have stock, a mile away from me, they have five.
It’s in stock on Amazon, Very, Curry and Microsoft stores and has been for weeks. Argos has them for collection at my local store.
Hopefully we’re not too far from having the PlayStation 5 in stock for more than a nanosecond, but in all honesty, with semiconductor shortages and the general volatility of the present day, it looks like dry spells could hit at any time. Huh.
GC: It’s still in stock with all those retailers as we write this, although Very categorizes it as ‘less stock, sell faster.
no one behind
So that the Japanese list for ps plus is looking a lot better but it’s still not great. Some of the names are unclear, but it doesn’t look like there are more PlayStation 2 games out there than ever. I don’t know if there would be a technical reason for this, so I’m very confused and frustrated because that was the format I wanted to replay (seems not many PSP games but I personally don’t care).
I’m not sure if this is one of those cases where you don’t want to go for a slow but steady approach, you want the list of games to be as large and impressive as possible from the start. Add more as you go, sure, but if they’re purposefully taking things back I think it’s a mistake.
A lot of people are only going to try it for a month and they’re not going to come back if that month is even a little. Plus they’re going to tell all their friends that it wasn’t good. We’ll see how the US line-up pans out next, but I’m already ready to get used to the PAL versions, which is really a disgrace. The UK in particular doesn’t require additional language options anyway.
too many warzones
Am I the only one who is completely indifferent to Call of Duty at the moment? Both the new Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. In my experience all the fans really care about at the moment and yet while I’m sure they say they’ll fix it all, if asked, no one will believe it until they see it Take it
This isn’t a problem unique to Call of Duty, it’s basically any game that allows cross-play with PC players, but it works for Call of Duty because of how popular it is and how it works. Attracts normal players as well as robbers.
Maybe a Modern Warfare 2 reboot would be nice, but if it doesn’t have a similar story I’m not sure why they’re reusing the name. I’m sure they’re kicking themselves for not making the Russians bad guys anymore.

Count me as one of those people who isn’t convinced by Sonic Frontiers at all. At least a little bit of money has been spent on it this time around, but for another game to look so derivative – especially one that doesn’t resemble it in any way – at this early stage isn’t exactly encouraging to me. .
I would have been more than happy to hear about Sonic Mania 2. I know it’s probably not as flashy, or as big a seller, as 3D games but the original is literally the only decent Sonic game in the last 20 years. Like, a couple has been fine but none of them have been actively doing well, and the sonic frenzy was really amazing.
I know it was basically a fan made thing so they probably can’t get the team back together, but if I were Sega I would be able to rely on the Sonic team suddenly being able to do it after all these years. Would have been doing everything to do that instead.
I know GC was just name-checking its biggest franchise, but I really hope it’s a long time until we see another Assassin’s Creed or Far Cry. I am very much into both series and Ubisoft really needs to find another thread. I think they know they’ve hit a wall in terms of the quality of their game and their public perception, but whether they’re really going to do anything about it, I don’t know.
It’s a shame that Michelle Ansel left because I would have loved to see her play a more important role. He didn’t have a formula, he just came up with ideas he liked and made them up. Ubisoft needs more people like this. And EA and Activision for that matter, because all big companies are equally bad.
shorten the wait
It seems really weird to me that we probably won’t get a new Fallout 5 for five, even 10 years after Bethesda went round. That might have been the case if they were left to their own devices, but I can’t believe Microsoft wants the franchise to be dormant for so long. Fallout 4 wasn’t perfect and Fallout 76 was terrible but I can’t believe the brand is damaged.
I think they may have intended to give it to someone else to build it. Maybe they won’t call it Fallout 5, but I hope the New Vegas remake rumor is true and that a new sequel will follow.
That’s what I’ll do anyway. The only problem is that the obvious candidate for making the games is obsidian, but they seem pretty tied up at the moment. Unless they’re at least finished avod, I doubt they’ll have time to do a remake as well. So I expect it to be over soon, not because I have any real interest in it, but because I want to see them work on Fallout instead.
Everything is fine
I just read Evil Momin’s letter and he wanted to trap the Nazis. You can do this in Sniper Elite 5. I’ve only seen it on Yellow Alert, not Red. I want to say that it was possible in old games too but I am not sure.
Anyway, two days ago I was getting pot shots on them and had one disabled. I couldn’t finish it because I had to reload. While he was lying there, bleeding, another soldier walked up to him, picked him up and shot him as I was reloading.

I have to agree with the reader yesterday that the Star Wars game is doing a better job of maintaining the style and tone of the series than the Disney+ show. They also look really expensive, whereas TV shows look several steps down from things like Game of Thrones or other AAA series. The only problem I have is with the Fallen Order plot, which I didn’t even understand when I was playing it, let’s leave what I remember now.
The main thing seemed to be to save the Force Sensitive children from the Empire but was there anything about an ancient alien race? I didn’t get all that or how the two things were connected.
Sort this and a few other issues (those ice slides!) and I think the sequel could be a real classic. What I get about the comparison between Fallen Order and Obi-Wan Kenobi is that they are actually quite similar stories in the same period. Except, there’s one big budget epic that looks good and has a lot of fans and another… Ewan McGregor walks around a landfill and has some of the worst editing I’ve ever seen in a major TV show.
Seriously, the bit where he ran to the right side of the screen and then suddenly reappears from the right, I thought he was in the same spot and he would just come back. It was something that was shot for comedy but was not. Needless to say, there is nothing like this in sports.
Wolfenstein: The New Order is a free mystery game on the Epic Games Store, not previously offered for free by Epic.
I was all set for a story with phallic looking Pokémon set out to be silly clickbait, but err… it’s purely on purpose or the person who designed it has some real issues that need to be addressed. They need to be taken out of their unconsciousness. Yes.
This week’s hot topic
The topic of this weekend’s Inbox was suggested by reader Carter, who asks What is your favorite sci-fi game?
The genre of a video game doesn’t matter as long as it can be described as science fiction in some way, but which is your favorite and why? How much do you enjoy science-fiction as a setting, and do you prefer it to lead more serious or more fantasy?
Are there any concepts or licenses that you think haven’t been done well before and how do you handle them? Which games best do things like spaceship combat and futuristic weapons and which concepts, like zero gravity and alien planets, do you think haven’t been exploited?
