Dancehall artiste KipRich, yesterday announced that he has reached an agreement with music label Togetherness Records, on a musical contract which he hopes will push his career to further heights.
Not much information was disclosed about the terms of the contract, but KipRich, born Marlon Plunkett, released a statement via his publicist Kavelle Christie saying, "I'm excited about everything that is about to happen. I have been working hard throughout the years, especially last year. I was in the studio non-stop and was on every major show..."
The Miami-based label had previously signed reggae artiste Anthony B, and released his album 'Unstoppable', which featured Wycliff Jean and Bone Crusher on the hit song Lighter.
In a statement, CEO Christopher Kerr, said that their decision to sign KipRich was influenced by his potential to breakthrough on the international market.
cross-over
Kerr said, "We decided to sign KipRich because we were looking for a dancehall act who we knew would be able to make it as an international act. We thought about KipRich and decided he was the perfect person for the cross-over."
The statement also stated that KipRich is currently working on some new tracks with the label for an album (not yet named), which is set to be released in a few weeks.
"...When I look at KipRich I see a diamond in a coal heap and we are taking it and brushing it off," the statement added.
KipRich, who grew up in Waterhouse, Kingston, was known for writing songs for mentor Elephant Man, early in his career. One of the songs Jook Gyal (in 2003), featured himself, Twista and Young Bloodz, and gave him further recognition after his first recorded song Leggo Di Bwoy, back in 1999.
In the final quarter of this year, the deejay has been busy promoting his music overseas."I have not been in Jamaica since September and I know people must be wondering what's happening. But, I'm working on a lot of singles right now for the album and we are going to release the singles and an international video in a few weeks. Then I'll be back in Jamaica in December," said the deejay who is currently in Miami.
