Bahamas uses drug money to fight crime

The Bahamas Government said it has used funds confiscated from the illegal drugs trade to purchase a new aircraft to assist in the fight against crime.
National Security Minister, Tommy Turnquest disclosed that the government withdrew US$2.2 million from a Fund set up with money confiscated from crime to purchase a 14 seater Cessna Caravan aircraft.
The Bahamian Security Minister said this aircraft will allow the police to respond more effectively to law enforcement challenges.
Turnquest said the acquisition of the aircraft will also end the practice of transporting prisoners on commercial flights within the Bahamas, and also lead to the reactivation of the defunct Royal Bahamas Police Force Air Wing.
